Lepai LP-2020TI Texas Instruments TPA3118 Hi-Fi Stereo Audio Mini Amplifier with Power Supply
Heralded as one of the top 25 microchips that shocked the world by IEEE Spectrum Magazine, the Tripath TA2020 gave the Lepai LP-2020A+ its heart and soul. With the warmth and precision of a Class AB amp but the efficiency of a Class D amp, the LP-2020A+ provided the listener with the best of both worlds. As Tripath was purchased by Cirrus Logic in 2007, the TA2020 became increasingly scarcer, thus making further production of the LP-2020A+ impossible.
Out of the shadow of the LP-2020A+ came its successor, the LP-2020TI. The engineers at Lepai focused on the Texas Instruments TPA3118 amp chip. This re-engineered amp outperforms its predecessor in quality and does so with greater flexibility. With standard features such as short circuit and thermal protection built in, this amp is able to run on 4.5 - 24 VDC. Whether you plan on using this mini amp to power a low-voltage audio project or to drive a set of tower speakers, this amp has the capacity to do so.
Using the Audio Precision Analyzer, the industry standard for measuring audio equipment, the LP-2020TI proves it out-powers its predecessor. Measuring the THD+N vs frequency, the LP-2020TI produces 14 watts per channel at 1% distortion, while playing a 1 kHz tone. This doubles the output of the LP-2020A+ at the same distortion level. The LP-2020TI provides great clarity in the highs and richness in the lows.
As the genuine LP-2020A+ fades away, its legacy is not forgotten. Lepai is confident that audio enthusiasts will grow to love the LP-2020TI even more.
